There are several homes with old-fashioned furnishings, as well as schoolhouses, stores, inns, and chapels, offering a variety of town tours, investigation of paranormal activity, and wedding receptions. The square is a great place for families to explore the history of Texas. 

Franconia Brewing Company produces Bavarian-style brews that help you cool off in the Texas heat. The brewery has brewed the region’s best Oktoberfest lager since the brewmaster arrived in 2008, and it’s no surprise why: The family has been brewing beer for over 200 years! Guests enjoy going on tours to learn about the brewing process while sampling the beers. 

Downtown Mainstreet is one of the oldest historic downtown areas in Texas. With over 20 local cuisines and 120 shops to browse, it provides the atmosphere of small-town charm with nuanced sprinkles of a larger city. 

You can’t live in McKinney and not enjoy Hutchin’s BBQ. The smokehouse got its start in 1978 in the neighboring town of Princeton when it was known at Roy’s Smokehouse. The joint was connected to Roy’s home. In 1991, it had become so popular that it had to be moved to a bigger location. Roy has since retired, but he passed the smoke rings on to his three sons, who continue to run the family-owned restaurant.

The high schools boast a 94.6% graduation rate. Knowing how important classroom size is, there is a 16:1 student-teacher ratio in the district, which allows students to have a better learning experience. McKinney ISD has served the community for more than 150 years and has continued to have a long-standing reputation for educational excellence.
